  Infrastructure, Obama Style

  You may remember that lots and lots of stimulus money was devoted to improving infrastructure.  The President talked a lot about the nation's "crumbling bridges" and called on lawmakers to pass the $787 billion bill in part to make our nation's roads safer.  Well, like most of the rhetoric employed to convince Americans the stimulus bill was a good idea, that was just hollow rhetoric, too:

  Tens of thousands of unsafe or decaying bridges carrying 100 million drivers a day must wait for repairs because states are spending stimulus money on spans that are already in good shape or on easier projects like repaving roads, an Associated Press analysis shows.

  ...

  The spending decisions by states are OK with the Obama administration.

  Obama Bows to Castro

  Information does not flow freely in the Castros' communist outpost: the dictatorship is the single source of information.  In order to combat this problem, the U.S., under George W. Bush, installed a news ticker outside the American Mission in Havana.

  Not surprisingly, the powers that be in Cuba did not like this move.  Reuters notes that the ticker "irritated" the Cuban government and "greatly angered" Fidel Castro" when it was installed.  Well, that news ticker is now gone.  Apparently, the Obama administration found it was "not serving the interests of a more productive relationship."

  Score one for the Castros; mark it a loss for the Cuban people.
