  • Intern’s Perspective: Under Pressure: Recognizing the 'Power of the People'

Following the passage of the health care bill in the House, President Obama was quick to urge the Senate to finish the job, and to finish it quickly -- before the end of the year to be exact. Further emphasizing the “need” to rush the legislative process, the president evoked images of a race in his petition to the Senate, saying that it was their turn to “take up the baton and bring this effort to the finish line.”

In response to the president’s proposed deadline, a Democrat remarked, “The holiday break is viewed the same way as the August break. We don’t want a repeat. We could probably survive it, but why take the chance?”

In other words, our nation’s representatives fear the public’s opinion. They fear having to defend their votes to masses of unhappy constituencies who recognize that their representatives are not being representative at all. At the end of the day, these powerful individuals are scared of the prospect of accountability.

This is an important point for apathetic and disillusioned citizens, many of which are young people, to understand. An activist can be mocked, scoffed at, and bullied by the most powerful members of society, but at the end of the day all who participate in the democratic process matter. This being noted, it is my hope that both the disenchanted youth and their older counterparts will use their voices and their actions to demand accountability from their representatives, both now in these critical times, and always thereafter whenever they feel that their beliefs are threatened.

Do you think that the fear of accountability and constituency backlash will deter the Senate from passing health care legislation?

Please tell Sen. Leiberman you support his request for an investigation into FBI intel re: Maj. Nidal Hasan, which apparently goes back to several years ago. This will expose the pathetic and shameful incompetency of the Bush administration whci allowed this terrorist to run free on American soil and commit the despicable and horrific attack agianst American soldiers right here in our country!

I wonder if Hannity has watched the Carrie Prejean "sex tape"? What a wasted interview with a lying, phoney woman. She's a disgrace to intelligent, honest women.

The Senate members should be afraid of the backlash from Americans if they rollover to Obama’s pathetic attempts to rule by fear as he amuses himself watching the ignorant bow to his tactics as he destroys America. The Senate cannot allow this bill to pass for it will bring America to its knees.

Jeff from Michigan

No, Senators aren't accountable. We American citizens can help teach them accountability and representation next November

Hello, If my religion does not allow medical intervention in my life, will I be punished by the Government for a required Gov. medical program? And if so, is this not persecution for my beliefs? Susie

GOP BIBLE-THUPING LECTURING HYPOCRITE MAKES SOLO SEX TAPE!

Carrie Prejean is shifting the blame for those topless modeling photos she took back in the day — now she claims our “culture” is the real problem … not just “the wind.” In her new “tell-all”book, Carrie dedicates an entire passage to b#tch about “porn,” writing: “Unfortunately, porn has become mainstreamed — it rushes at us through big screens, portable screens; soft-core porn is on mainstream TV cable stations." UM CARRIE,ITS ALSO THE TYPE OF VIDEOTAPE YOU MADE FOR YOUR BOYFRIEND!

The public option will pass. There's nothing we can do about it. My loyalty is to sean, rush, and rove. But, objective researchers say we're doing more harm than good as it pertains to our party.

GeezLouize

I enjoy the Sean Hannity show every week night. You were the first one to see through this phoney baloney guy in staying at the White House. You made the point about his farLeft, radical friends and that it is not just some, but ALL OF HIS FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES HATE AMERICA!

Sean, maybe it is just a coincidence, but...now that Virginia has elected a new republican governor, Fox cable news has been disrupted in Woodbridge, Va. I called COMCAST twice already. They tell me the problem is with FOX and the signal. This is a first. By the way, FOX is the ONLY channel that doesn't work. CNN, MSLSD, etc are all fine. I'm not into conspiracy theory, but....I'm scratching my head. Perhaps you can investigate? Thanks.

GOP MORAL VALUES

Carrie Prejean demanded more than a million dollars during her settlement negotiations with Miss California USA Pageant officials -- that is, until the lawyer for the Pageant showed Carrie & Mom, an XXX home video of her handiwork. When the video started playing, Carrie's first reaction was "that's disgusting" and Carrie denied it was her. Then, the camera angle changed and panned up to her face. She was caught red-handed ...so to speak. Promising "soloist" but not in her church choir.

GOP Hypocrites

Carrie Prejean! You are busted! You can flip your hair all you want you are a Jezebel! First it was the wind "accidently" blew your shirt open. Now its not really a sex tape. Regardless of whether or not you use props for m-a-s-t-e-r-b-a-t-i-o-n, showing yourself to a man who is not your husband is still a sin! You & Hannity can help/spin it all you want but the fact remains you used your sexuality(semi-nude Victoria Secret test shots) tantalizing a man in a way that is not pleasing to God.

HANNITY HAS OFFICIALLY RAN OUT OF THINGS TO TALK ABOUT

Momma said wonk you out!!!!

November 9, 2009 at 9:22 pm

NO. IT WILL PASS

Because a huge majority of their constituents WANT health care reform with a public option, and without the stupak amendment which is basically a back hand slap to women. You would never know though by watching fox.

This is about control and re-distribution of wealth. I am a veteran and joined the military under the context that we would have free medical care if we retired. In the 1990's the democrats cut our benefits and privatized the military health-care system, which was truly socialized, because it was TOO EXPENSIVE. So, now the same people, Chris Dodd was one of them, are now going to socialize the entire health-care system!!! Oh and look at Walter Reed as an example of quality.

I think that the only thing they care about is pushing their agenda which is plain and simply Marxism/Socialism.The Czars that were sacrificed fell into cushy jobs that were slightly out of the spotlight in order to continue their support of Obama's radical agenda. As far as the encumbants go it's my opinion they will make more money and have as much if not more power if they do get voted out. This movement runs deep and long and it will take some bold conservatives to defeat it. GOD HELP US ALL!
