  • Intern's Perspective: Obama Falls Short of Really Teaching Responsibility

As the first African-American president, Barack Obama has undoubtedly become a role model and a source of inspiration for many young people throughout the United States. He has risen up from hardship and achieved one of the most esteemed of titles that is granted to an individual in our nation.

Obama is aware of his ability to influence the nation’s youth. In some cases, he has taken advantage of this ability in order to try to teach kids some noble lessons. For example, during his September 8th address where in he spoke directly to students, the president reminded the nation’s youth of their need to take responsibility for themselves and their futures.

It seems to me, however, that Obama has forgotten the age old cliché that “actions speak loader than words”. President Obama can tell students that taking responsibility for oneself is important all that he wants, but unless he starts taking responsibility himself, his appeals will fail to be influential. It seems that, nearly a year after his inauguration, the President can rarely get through a speech without reminding the American people of the problems that he “inherited” from a particularly unpopular president.

This Wednesday’s speech in Wisconsin was no exception: Obama sited the inherited “financial crisis that threatened to plunge our economy into a Great Depression, the worst that we've seen in generations," and “record deficits, two wars, frayed alliances around the world," as reason for his administration’s shortcomings at present.

If President Obama really wants to teach the nation’s youth about responsibility, he will need to stop playing the blame game and start fessing up.

Do you think that President Obama is practicing what he preaches when it comes to responsibility? Do you think he’s missing out on an opportunity to teach America’s youth an important lesson?

DID YOU KNOW:

That at the rally in DC yesterday a protester had a heart attack and was revived by Federal Govt. Medical personnel. OR that the same SEIU that Glenn Beck bashes every episode is the same SEIU nurses that are treating him for appendicitis while in the hospital. Oh, the hypocrisy. No one wants Govt. interference until they actually need something from our Govt. Then they come dying...er, I mean crying for help. It could be you next.

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED FROM BUSH'S "RESPONSIBILITY"?

That killing more Americans than 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, The first Gulf war, and all the homicides in the U.S. combined spells M-I-S-S-I-O-N-A-C-C-O-M-P-L-I-S-H-E-D ? Parents should be role models, not presidents, or else Fox news would cry indoctrination.

Keep IT Simple, Keep it Clean, Keep it out of Pelosi's Reach

A "True Leader" is one embracing the current state of the nation and marches forward by unifying ALL citizens to rally a common theme of continuity. The "Yellow Belly Socialist" schmoozes your vote with ideologies of wine, folk, and song. Then deceiving and divisively, conquers citzens by blaming everyone else except himself. A "promise" to clean up the so-called faults of the nation's past, is a weak-kneed approach to commune behavior, originating from a Community Organizer. Teach that.

All Obama Knowes how to do is shift blame and lie he has no experance as a leader!! The country is falling apart because you have a crew of people in office with a agenda, and big ideas, but no real knowledge of how a nation should be run!!

Jeff from Michigan

Oh yeah,he's doing more to demonstrate responsibility as an exemplary role model for our youth. He is one of many, if not the biggest liar to walk the halls of Washington. Many flock to chant his name. Saying one thing, doing another. Lying when it doesn't go your way.Using race as a stonewall.NOT going to church Sunday but retains a golf handicap. Deceiving the public, forcing his way.Blaming other for failure. Distorting facts. You call this Leadership?

Jesus was a Liberal

What exactly should he be fessing up about? Anybody who thinks the financial climate was good even the year before he took office is in deep denial or is clueless about our financial system. After 8yrs of Bush trashing our economy and dis-regarding our Constitution, did anyone think it would ONLY take a year to fix? Sometimes I think the RW thinks Obama is magical and that the GOP aren't being obstructionists. People won't forget the RW's ignorance.

Amen! If President Obama truly cared about being responsible, a long time ago he would have said, "I inherited this, now it is mine and I will deal with it." Instead he is talking about "mopping up someone else's mess". Mr. President, grow up and take care of the mess, and quit throwing all the blame at W. There are plenty of people on BOTH sides of the aisle to blame, but that doesn't fix the problem.
