  • Disturbing DOJ Decision?

    KINSTON MAP

Does the Department of Justice have a hidden agenda?  That’s what some are alleging after the DOJ denied Kinston, North Carolina the right to move to a non-partisan election format.  The city voted overwhelmingly in favor of ending partisan local elections, but the Justice Department denied their request claiming it creates an unfair election environment for black candidates even though Kinston is two-thirds African American.

Is this decision simply the latest example of a disturbing, pro-Democratic trend in the DOJ’s rulings?  Griff Jenkins reports on this TONIGHT.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled a retooled health care overhaul plan Thursday intended to bridge differences among Democrats and open a history-making floor debate on extending health insurance to nearly all Americans... and it's only 1,900 pages!

Speaking on the West Front of the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers, Pelosi said the House's version of a health care reform bill will include a government-run insurance option and extend coverage to 36 million uninsured Americans.  She said the bill will lower patient costs and reduce the national deficit.

Pelosi wants to have the legislation on the floor next week -- with a final vote before Veterans Day, Nov. 11 -- which would give President Obama a bill to sign by year's end, numerous Democratic officials said.

The NEW health care  bill is online and its almost 2,000 pages! But Congressman Dennis Kucinich asks: "Is this the best we can do?"

Washington D.C. (October 29, 2009) – Following a statement on the Floor of the House of Representative, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement about the latest House health care plan:

“Is this the best we can do? Forcing people to buy private health insurance, guaranteeing at least $50 billion in new business for the insurance companies?

“Is this the best we can do? Government negotiates rates which will drive up insurance costs, but the government won’t negotiate with the pharmaceutical companies which will drive up pharmaceutical costs.

“Is this the best we can do? Only 3% of Americans will go to a new public plan, while currently 33% of Americans are either uninsured or underinsured?

“Is this the best we can do? Eliminating the state single payer option, while forcing most people to buy private insurance.

“If this is the best we can do, then our best isn’t good enough and we have to ask some hard questions about our political system: such as Health Care or Insurance Care? Government of the people or a government of the corporations.”

  • Conservative Revolution?

    Hannity Producers  |

A special election in upstate New York’s 23rd congressional district has turned into what seems like a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party.

Although official GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava calls herself a Republican, her record is a far cry from that: she’s pro-choice, supports card check legislation and favored the stimulus bill.

GOP heavy hitters like Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Governor Sarah Palin and former Senator Fred Thompson have all come out in support of a different contender -- Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who favors cutting taxes and decreasing the debt.

Do you think this could be the start of a conservative revolution?

  • Grayson At It Again

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) is drawing criticism from his congressional colleagues, but President Obama offered him some warm words at a Miami fundraiser for the Democratic congressional campaign committees last night.

Obama, in introducing the members of Congress in attendance, called Grayson – along with Florida Reps. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Kendrick Meek – as “outstanding members of Congress.”

Obama may regret his praise of Grayson, who is now drawing fire from members in both parties for referring to Linda Robertson, the adviser to Obama’s Fed Chief Ben Bernanke as a “K Street whore” in a radio interview last month. And he’s received national attention for equating GOP opposition to the Democrats’ health care plan to wanting sick seniors to “die quickly.”
